Kaisha Thomas, Ph.D.
My Approach
I believe that every person and every family has inherent strengths, even in their most challenging moments. My approach is rooted in family systems theory and solution-focused practice, which means I look at the patterns, relationships, and contexts that shape your experiences, not just isolated symptoms or behaviors.
With over 24 years of clinical experience, I work with real-world people navigating real-world complexities: family conflict, relationship struggles, trauma recovery, addiction, grief, major life transitions, and the unique pressures that come with high-performance careers. These aren’t “disorders” to diagnose, they’re human experiences that deserve understanding, not labels. You’re not here to be fixed; you’re here to heal, to grow, and to reclaim the life you deserve.
I utilize a solution-focused, strength-based approach tailored to your unique needs. My role is to create a safe and supportive environment where you can explore what’s possible, address what’s been difficult, and move toward transformation with clarity and confidence. Whether you’re an individual seeking personal growth, a couple working to strengthen your relationship, or a family navigating conflict, I meet you where you are with curiosity and compassion.
My Philosphy
I share a core philosophy with my co-founder at Insightful Edge Therapy: mental health care should be about growth and wellness, not just crisis intervention. We don’t pathologize the human experience. We recognize that life is complex, that relationships are intricate, and that the challenges you face are often the result of systems, patterns, and experiences, not personal failings.
I bring a family systems perspective to this philosophy, which means I understand that individual struggles are often connected to larger relational dynamics. Healing happens in context, whether that’s within your family, your partnership, your workplace, or your own internal narrative. My work is about helping you see those connections, shift those patterns, and create lasting change.
I’m also passionate about preventive care and early intervention. Just as we maintain our physical health through regular check-ups, our mental and emotional well-being benefits from proactive attention. Establishing a baseline when things are stable gives you a foundation to draw on when life becomes challenging.
My Background
I am a dually licensed clinician in the State of Florida as both a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist (LMFT) and a Licensed Mental Health Counselor (LMHC). I hold certifications as a Certified Sex Therapist (CST), National Certified Counselor (NCC), Certified Clinical Mental Health Counselor (CCMHC), and Certified Forensic Mental Health Evaluator (CFMHE). I am also certified as a Substance Abuse Professional (SAP) and meet State of Florida requirements to provide Hypnotherapy and treat complex cases involving trauma and addiction.
My clinical specialties include family systems therapy, trauma-informed care, addiction treatment, sex and relationship therapy, and working with co-occurring behavioral health challenges such as PTSD, depression, and anxiety. I have extensive experience working with high-profile clients, executives, and elite performers, bringing a nuanced understanding of the unique pressures and expectations that come with success.
Throughout my career, I’ve held leadership roles that have shaped my understanding of mental health systems and program development. I served as Chief Clinical Officer at Hanley Center and Gratitude House, where I led clinical teams, developed evidence-based programming, and ensured quality care for individuals and families navigating complex behavioral health challenges. These experiences gave me insight into how systems work, and more importantly, how they can work better for the people they serve.
I earned my undergraduate degree in Dance from the Juilliard School of Performing Arts, which gave me firsthand insight into the demands of elite performance and the mental resilience required to sustain it. I went on to earn a Master of Science in Dance and Movement Therapy from Hunter College, another Master of Science in Mental Health Counseling from Nova Southeastern University, and my Ph.D. in Marriage and Family Therapy with a specialization in Health Care Systems and Medical Family Therapy, also from Nova Southeastern University.
I am a Clinical Fellow and Approved Supervisor of the American Association of Marriage and Family Therapy and a Florida State approved supervisor. I’ve served as Part-Time Faculty at Capella University’s School of Counseling & Human Services for over a decade, mentoring the next generation of therapists at both Master’s and Ph.D. levels. I am a published author in the field and have contributed to critical conversations around trauma, family systems, and mental health policy.
At Insightful Edge Therapy, I work one-on-one with individuals, couples, and families who are ready to invest in their healing and growth. We offer transparent pricing, clear expectations, and flexible engagement options, whether you’re seeking intensive work, ongoing support, or periodic guidance as life evolves. You stay in control of your journey.
And there’s more on the horizon. We’re building something that will expand access to this person-centered, non-diagnostic approach, bringing together technology and therapeutic excellence in ways that honor client choice, transparency, and the complexity of the human experience. Stay tuned.
